I read this guys column. It was a reasonable argument that basically said, “hey, maybe people should be required to actually know what they are doing before carrying a deadly weapon around in public”. This greatly upset the gun nuts, who felt this was the first step to having Communist Muslims take over the country and force everyone to get gay married.

Iowa seeing nothing wrong with blind people packing in public is no big deal, so why should sanity even get a chance with the True Believers? After all, they are arming themselves to shoot the police and military they so love and respect and somehow fear because….. I can’t figure that one out.

That’s what he gets for questioning the greatest religion of all history’s holy icon! America! Worship it or die!

I actually used to subscribe to Guns & Ammo when I lived in Alaska and taking guns with you into the bush was something you did several times a year.

It is a straightforward gun enthusiast magazine like Road & track is for car enthusiasts. There was nothing ideological or wingnut about it back then, I doubt they have changed all that much in the last 7 years.

Personally I think the editor is letting himself be cowed by the overly noisy but likely numerically fairly small response by the gun nuts. Many of whom probably never subscribed to his magazine in the first place given their ideological bent.

Not sure what kind of experience he has with past social media complaints. Those of us used to dealing with the internet everyday know that it only takes a few actual people using multiple accounts to make one hell of a stink in a comment section.

The far bigger problem for the magazine was probably threats by advertisers. Magazines exist solely to provide ad space and without the money from advertisers you do not have a magazine. They said fire him & G&A rolled over like a scared dog.

This is also why you’ll never see a negative review in it or any other advertising driven magazine.

I’m amazed that this guy didn’t know his audience better; and then he apologizes. Pitiful.

I hope Metcalf and Bequette have a “come to Jesus” moment and realize that their time honored hobby has been taken over by dangerous crazy people.
It should have been obvious a long time before now, but denial is a powerful drug when you are at the eye of the storm and benefiting from that position besides.

Guns are seen by many as a magic talisman that will keep people safe from rapists, home invaders, communists, terrorists and illegal aliens.

There is no reasoning with the, just trying to limit the amount of damage they can do.

re: #10 Sol Berdinowitz

….. just trying to limit the amount of damage they can do.

That’s not going to happen either, frankly
And with 3D printed guns now a reality those of us in the rest of the world will get to watch the poison spread from the US
(it already has, to an extent - gangs everywhere tend to model themselves on American gang culture, particularly gun use)
